Family Home Evening Fun

For our family home evening I told the story of Jesus telling Peter to have faith and go fishing again. So for our treat we made these aquarium cups with blue Jello and Swedish Fish. The kids thought they were so neat! It was a kit I bought at Wal-Mart, it was so simple. We always look forward to Monday nights. (I have no idea why Hunter has that look on his face!)

Hyatt Lost Pines-Austin

Before James left for Utah we took a trip down to Austin. We stayed at an awesome resort and had a blast! As we drove out there we couldn't believe that there could possibly be a big hotel out in the middle of nowhere. We just kept taking farm roads and were passing dozens of random homes/businesses and trailers. Then we spotted the sign and drove at least two miles in, past pine trees (haven't seen those since we left Flagstaff!) before we arrived. We checked in, put on our swimsuits and spent a couple of hours playing in the lazy river/pool/fountain. Our kids were in heaven. We ate dinner, roasted s'mores (even though it was over 100 degrees), walked along the Colorado river, swam some more and then finally went to bed. The next day, we sadly checked out and headed down to the outlets in San Marcos. James was a good sport. Then we had amazing hamburgers at Centerpoint Grill which recommended by Christine. (Anytime she tells you something is good/worth seeing/doing, you can bet it really is!) We headed back home but not before we stopped in downtown Austin for Mexican Vanilla ice cream at Amy's!

Skateboarding

This is Curren and his "teacher" from skateboarding camp. Jim taught Curren a lot that week and if it weren't for Jim, I don't think I would have left Curren at the skatepark that first day. It was run by skaters, who were really nice, but who had no idea how to make nervous mom's more comfortable about security and safety issues. Jim watched out for my little boy and Curren had so much fun.

James took Curren there for a two-hour skate session this morning. They had a lot of fun. We got a new little digital camera that takes video, so James shot a few little movies, so hopefully we can figure out how to download those soon. I think James is glad that Curren likes to skateboard so they can go together and do something that they both enjoy!

Fourth of July

We started off the day by seeing "Kit Kitteridge: An American Girl". Curren, Emily, (and Kaitlyn--Emily's doll) filled up on popcorn and fruit punch while we watched the movie. It was a cute show and since it was about the Depression, it reminded me a little of how things are starting to seem in our economy today. It did have somewhat of a happy ending and we all liked it.
That evening we went over to a ward party hosted by a family we go to church with. They were so nice to invite everyone to their house! They have a beautiful home with a pool, and it's right on the golf course where they were doing fireworks. The kids watched the show from the pool--sooo fun!
The next night we had friends over for dinner. Greg and Trevor were here, too. I would have to say that we ate the most amazing meal ever!! Nate made his famous ribs, Christine brought her delicious as well as gorgeous flag cake, Leslie made homemade rolls, and I made a big, yummy salad and homemade baked beans. We have the best friends here and it's always so fun having a house full of people. After dinner we set up a movie for the kids upstairs and we watched "Fool's Gold" downstairs.

On the road again

We are moving to Utah! James accepted a job with GE Healthcare in Salt Lake City and he starts July 21. We hope that our house sells quick. We have consistently moved about every two years. We met in San Diego, lived in Salt Lake when we were first married, moved to Delaware, moved to Arizona, then Texas, and now Utah, again. We are sad to leave our awesome neighborhood, good friends, great ward, school, etc. On the other hand, we look forward to seeing old friends and having some family close. Plus, we can drive to San Diego to see our parents and cousins. (I had to wait to write this post because James just barely told his boss here about his plans!)
