Mother's Day and Memorial Day

I'm coming up for air for just a few minutes! It is the crazy last week of school and I am getting things together for Curren's class party, putting their scrapbooks together, etc! But, I wanted to thank my kids and James for giving me such a perfect mother's day! It started with breakfast in bed and then I got to open a sweet card that Curren had made me at school. It made me cry! Sooo cute! Then I opened a necklace and earrings that I love from my new favorite store, The Funky Monkey. We hung out, played plastic animals, Legos, ran around, went to church, where the kids sang to all of us moms and then when we got home, James made my favorite meal. It was the best day, ever!! Thanks so much to my awesome family!

Memorial Day weekend was great: James took Curren and Emily camping with friends. They went down to Dinosaur Valley. It was hot and humid, but they had the time of their lives roasting marshmallows, sleeping in the tent and getting wet. There were real dinosaur footprints and the fish kissed the kids feet. Ok, remember, now this is Texas: there were also SNAKES in the water!! I would have freaked out!!

While they camped, the little boys and I hung out in the air conditioning with Christine, Lauren, and little Simon. We picked up food from Cheesecake Factory (avocado egg rolls) and watched a movie while the babies slept upstairs. We were up 'til one am--so not like me, but so fun. We are so lucky to have such good friends here!

Then there was the annual ward pool party at our clubhouse on Monday. Tons of good food and lots of pool time. What more can I say? I can't wait for summer to start. I am looking forward to many days spent hanging out at the pool!

Curren's First Triathlon

There are now two triathletes in our family! Curren completed his first tri on Saturday and he was AWESOME! He had a great 25m swim (with no help from the lifeguard), great stroke and breathing, then a fun 1 mile bike ride, and a 1/3 mile run. He was so excited the whole time! It was so fun to watch him get all pumped up by us cheering him on. James helped him in the transition area and then he wanted to do it on his own. Just like Dad, he competed with friends, whose dads train and race with James. Curren, you rocked that race!

Field Day at School

Friday was field day at Curren's school. It was so fun to watch all the kids have a blast playing all the games. This is a picture of Curren and his buddy Zachary. They have a lot of fun together. They both love Legos, playing outside, swimming, and skateboarding. There were lots of fun activities: a fish fry where each kid had a pan and they lobbed a fake fish back and forth, an area where some kids blew bubbles while others popped them with fly swatters, and of course there were relays and a three-legged-race. At the end everyone had popsicles and they were given a souvenir water bottle. This school has a really great PTA. Have I mentioned how much we love it here?!

Fathers and Sons Campout

Last weekend James took Curren and Hunter on the annual Fathers and Sons campout in Denton. There were about 300 people! They roasted marshmallows, got really dirty, ate marshmallows, played with bugs, ate more marshmallows...While Emily, Porter and I ate pizza and hung out with the girls.

Make-up and Movies

On Thursday Curren missed his very first day of school. He had a 102 degree fever and a raging headache. He spent much of his day laying in our bed watching movies on the laptop and eating popcorn. He slept a lot and even though it isn't fun having a sick child and I want them to feel better, I love all the snuggling!
Things are always a bit crazy when one of us is sick. I had put Porter down for a nap, Hunter was playing trains upstairs, so I sat down with Curren for a while. I got up to get him some more Gatorade and I couldn't hear Hunter anymore. I thought, "He's a little TOO quiet". I go upstairs to investigate. I start calling his name. No answer, just a little shuffling in Emily's room (she's at Museum School). Then I call again. He stands up on the other side of her bed and says, "Yips (lips), Mom, yips!!" Oh yeah, he got into Emily's "goodie bag drawer". It's where she stashes all of her favorite things, including make-up. So Hunter got into the play lipstick! Don't tell Emily....we didn't tell her, since she has so much junk in that drawer she didn't even realize that those little lipsticks are gone!

Porter, 5 months

Our cute boy is 15lbs now and loves to play with his feet and grab whatever is within reach. He loves to play with the wipey package because it sounds all crinkly. (The blue ones from Costco!) He is eating mashed bananas and loves to roll over, too. We love you, Porty!

Breast Cancer 5K

On Saturday I ran the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in downtown Ft. Worth. James' company was a sponsor and he packed everyone up to cheer me on as I crossed the finish line. It has been a long time since I have run in a race, but I did it in about 30min. Not too bad! But, it wasn't about me or how fast I ran it. There were lots of women who survived breast cancer who were running and they wore the pink shirts. Then everyone who knew a survivor or had lost someone they loved to the disease wore a sign on their back. As I ran I past by a man and his teenage son who were running in memory of their wife/mom. That just touched me. I was about to cry almost the whole time I was running! Pink is my favorite color and it was all over the place...feather boas, hats, bandannas, shoes, etc.
