First day of school 2009

Curren is in Mrs. Carpenter's second grade and Emily is in Mrs. Gillies' first grade class.

Cousins

The gang

These kids had so much fun playing together, day and night! We spent a few nights at Russ and Rebecca's and it was a big slumber party, starting with Emily's birthday, a fun day at the LA Science Center, birthday cake (thanks, Aunt Rebecca), trips to beach, skateboarding, surfing (until Russ went to the ER!!), and a picnic at a fun park nearby. Since the kids are all blonde/blue-eyed and so close in age, it is hard for strangers to figure out who everyone belongs to!

Summer vacation

Fall is here and school is in full swing, and I am missing those long summer days! Before I post first day of school pictures, I have to document our trip to San Diego and Long Beach. For this trip we just wanted to go to the beach and let the kids have fun with their cousins. And that's just what we did. We went to Torrey Pines State Beach almost everyday and the kids had a blast playing in the sand, jumping in the waves, and boogie boarding. We packed lunch, treats, and drinks; put on lots of sun block and played all day. The water was warm, since it was mid-August and the weather was perfect.

Pioneer day

The 24th of July is just as big as the 4th here in Utah. We started the day off by going downtown for the big parade. (Thanks to the Given family who camped out for an awesome spot!) It was hot, but luckily we were in the shade! Michael's family is a lot of fun to see a parade with. We loved the precision motorcycle cops, the float made completely of hand-tied quilts (only in UT!!), and Porter danced to all the bands that came by.
That evening we went over to our friends' house for a bbq. I brought my mom's beans and they were yummy. We walked over to Cottonwood Heights to the Butlerville Days celebration. There, the kids got to go down inflatable slides, do the dunking booth, and then they played with light sticks until the fireworks started.

James' birthday

Matt, Mikel, and Myles came over to help us celebrate James' 36th. birthday. We had a yummy dinner and a chocolate chocolate chip cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes. (No traditional chocolate marshmallow cake this time, as was the birthday boy's request). We also met him for lunch at Noodles & Co., and called and sang to him a few times while he was at work.

beach at Daybreak

It was on a gorgeous summer day in Utah that we headed out to meet friends at the manmade lake at Daybreak. What a perfect place to have fun in the sun! It's the closest thing to a real beach here in SLC. Curren and Max spent their time jumping off the dock and then running over to the play ground until they got hot and then they would run back and jump off the dock. Emily and Hunter played it the sand and Porter just wanted to be in the water!

Summer has been so fun, now that it's almost August, it feels like our carefree days are almost numbered!
